FirecatSue here. Matt Price and I had the pleasure of spending this past Saturday at the first Mission UX conference. The series emerged out of a local UI/UX meetup, and was the brainchild of several dedicated volunteers and a few key sponsors, including Firecat.
The San Antonio: A Smart City keynote by City of San Antonio's CIO Craig Hopkins was the highlight for me. His understanding of and appreciation for the value of UX was spot-on. "Technology is important -- but it's only a part of what we're doing. We're using technology to deliver a personalized experience to empower our residents." I appreciate his nuanced understanding so much. As a strategist, it's my role to help clients articulate a vision that encompasses not just business goals, not just technology—but the experience of the human beings involved. I'd be so pleased if they all had this same level of understanding.
USAA's extremely talented design director and veteran educator John Griffin made sketchnotes of the talks, and I'm sharing them here with his permission. Griff is quite active on LinkedIn -- I suggest you follow him there.
We're looking forward to the next Mission UX conference!
And here are the slides from my talk (but you really had to be there).
